Guitarist, Mak Grgic

Cinema Verismo

Two recording samples available below

Available for Purchase from iTunes and Amazon

Grgic is a young guitarist whose reputation is on the rise.  This CD features classic, well-loved melodies from film scores alongside traditional favorites of guitar repertoire.  The inventive “concept” of this “recital CD” keeps it fresh and accessible.  When people ask me for a good way to “introduce” others to classical music, I often reach for a CD like this one.  The combination of guitar, great works, and film tunes make it an excellent, musically non-threatening introduction to the world of fine music.  Another good pick to start your music library.

Recently added to the exciting roster of Crossover Media, headed by Max Horowitz, Mak’s CD Cinema Verismo has already found home both as a part of programming and featured as “CD of the Week” by the following major stations:

PRI National, KDFC in San Francisco under New Releases, KUSC in Los Angeles under New Releases, WFMT in Chicago, WCRB/WGBH CD of the Week (date TBA), MPR: Minnesota Public Radio, WQXR: New Release added to regular programming, WMHT in Schenectady New York (CD giveaway for fundraising drive), WGUC in Cincinnati, WRTI in Philadelphia, KPBX in Spokane and KQAC in Portland.

Other stations include KKUP in Cupertino, KPFK Global Village, KCND in Fargo North Dakota, KXMS in Joplin Missouri, KSOR in Oregon, WCVE in Richmond, Virginia, WMOT Tennessee with many more to come. Stay tuned and feel free to write your local station and ask them to feature the recording.

Hear Mak play Asturias, Davidovsky Festino, Sciarrino, Bernstein and more

The following includes some quotes from well-known musical figures

Mak Grgić, whose playing has been called “superb” by the Washington Post ” has quickly established himself as one of the up-and-coming performers in the guitar genre, brings us Cinema Verismo, from Marquis Music, a new approach to programming solo guitar music. With brilliant performances of age-old classical selections, such as Asturias and Danza espanola No.5, along with beloved movie scores fromThe GodfatherThe Goodthe Bad and the UglyVolverThe MissionWest Side Story and Chariots of Fire. Mak “displays a powerful expressive range in this highly inventive concert” which combines bravura, precision and deep expression.

Scott Tennant of LAGQ, was quoted as saying, “Grgić performs these film classics with a mastery that will make cinema buffs fall in love with the guitar, and make guitar fans fall in love with this recording.” Grgić is a true lover of cinema, taking the listener down memory lane and bringing back beloved music used to highlight moments from film that for many are unforgettable. One will be astonished by the reocording’s flow and beauty as well as the striking quality of sound achieved on the variety of guitars used in this recording.
